They’re fine giving you their info because they trust you. The problem is when the person seeking that information is untrustworthy – and some shithead(s) making their way into a company or government isn’t just possible, it’s likely.

Tell them to give all their sensitive personal information to someone that hates them. Credit card numbers, political beliefs, nudes, sexual preferences/fetishes, etc.

I’m a 7 minute drive from downtown and my options are satellite, cellular, or fixed wireless. Everyone around me has gigabit ethernet, but due to costs involved in running fiber and the fact my little community is mostly old folks (and thus likely not going to buy in) ISPs don’t want to “invest” in us.

Before any tankies claim the word is a blanket slur against communists: “tankie” was coined by British communists that were disgusted by the attitudes of some of their so-called “fellows”.

They almost certainly have in house legal teams and those lawyers are salaried.

That saying holds more truth if you’re using the “non-political” definitions of conservative – i.e. moderate, cautious, or resistant to change.

Moreso “set in your ways” as the world changes around you.

I don’t get it: a bear just makes more sense. Despite their intimidating appearance most are gentle creatures. Their fur and mass can provide warmth, and if you’re injured they can easily carry you out of the woods.

If you pick “random man” you might get a twink and I feel like they’re more of a liability in a survival situation.

Or “journalists” trying to smear people they don’t like. FOX likes to call anyone that’s rich and left of “fascist” the “liberal elite.”

There’s a housing project in my town that’s the most depressing place I could imagine living. It’s like a cross between Soviet block housing and a minimum security prison: concrete walls, little natural light, and steel doors. The only room in the apartments that have built in lighting is the bathroom since it’s required by code.

It’s entirely a cost thing: the goal was to make “housing” that requires the minimum in maintenance and repair. To that end they went with “durability is more important that livability” and offloading as much responsibility onto the tenants as possible.

You made me realize I haven’t fired up my Windows 11 machine in a while, so I went to check it – even re-enabling the copilot toggle … which weirdly did nothing. Then I remembered I had lobotomized all the AI and assistant “features” a while ago.

I’m a little disappointed: I wanted to ask Copilot “How do I purge you from my machine?”

I occasionally go back and browse r/all – the amount of cryptofascist bullshit on the front page is staggering compared to a couple years ago.

Lemmy has a fair number of loud, toxic instances, communities, and users. On the other hand, it’s easy to block all of them, and it’s practically a requirement to enjoy lemmy.

So block with zero hesitation – the only people that will give you crap about it are the people that are the problem in the first place.

I’m pretty confident in saying the majority of users here don’t like meta either – the userbase on lemmy is predominantly people trying to avoid corporate social media.

ByteDance and Meta both privacy nightmares, it’s just a question of what fucked up things they doing with the data.

Yes, because the major world and regional powers are just going to sit still and die when the see your country has a bunch of things they need to survive. They totally won’t invent a pretext to invade and secure those resources – that’s never happened, particularly in the middle east.

I’m sure Saudi Arabia will be able to defend itself from multiple attackers fighting for their very survival. Brilliant plan.
