  • This is too simplistic, isn’t it? At work maybe we have no choice. My AdBlock is still working on YT. So I don’t need to bail on Chrome yet. (I did, but I didn’t need to.)

What happens as the ad blockers get worse, as Google disables more and more functionality? This will be the fun time. It’s not hard to switch browsers, after all. And people know this. So of course they don’t worry about it.

I used to live in a big city and was bicycling or bussing a lot. When my apartment lease ran out, I was able to find a place where I could walk most of the time. That was great for several years. Of course it depended on the specific location.

Another thing is owning less. If you own things that you don’t use at least once a year, maybe get rid of them. It’s easier to clean, to move, to organize, to find things. Of course this also depends on preference. Regardless, owning things has its own mental and financial costs, so find an amount that is good for you.

Getting rid of a TV made my life better. Similarly, getting rid of a microwave. But the latter depends on your cooking habits. For example, my work has a microwave, so I heat food up there regularly, and at home I cook things.

  • I don’t think “bald” is the right expression. You have a shaved head, which is different, right?

Also, shaved heads can go with most kinds of fashion. Your hair is always perfect, no matter the wind or rain.

Finally, if you got self esteem only because of compliments on your hair, now is the perfect time in life to find other ways to love yourself. Deeper ways. :-)

  • You didn’t tell us what you think the usual 9 to 5 pays. Are you asking whether a tech job pays more than minimum wage? Many of them do. Also, when you’re interviewing, and even when you’re writing a cover letter, try to avoid the term power user, and instead provide details of things that you’ve actually done. Anyone can call themselves a power user, but what does that even mean? If you say you’re a power user, if you’re lucky the interviewer will ask you for details, and if you’re unlucky they won’t, because they’ll assume you’re just grandstanding. So you’re better off providing a little extra information up front, and not gambling on them asking for it.

The alternatives are around now, and we know that many YouTube content creators are exploring other revenue streams, so it’ll be interesting to see how exodus works. Clearly YouTube is going to continue to get worse and some people are going to leave. What’s next? I’m excited.

It’s always interesting to watch companies implode. Apparently Reddit is blocking non-Google search engines from indexing them, and Twitter wants you to be logged in to view people’s profiles. Those types of moves guarantee that the platform won’t be relevant a decade from now and possibly sooner than that.

  • It’s very important to be precise. Depending what country you’re in, there could be full professors, assistant professors, associate professors, instructors, and other positions. Some of those positions might be well paid, but it’s a safe bet that some of the others are not. So if you’re looking at one full professor’s salary and thinking that most other people with the word professor in their name make the same salary, depending what country you live in, you would be mistaken.

Actually wait a second, that’s true in every country.
