That’s a good question. Safari market share isn’t as big as Chrome’s (62.55% vs 20.5%, according to statcounter), but it’s still the 2nd largest. Also note that the WEI proposal appeared around May but made the news only now.
Maybe when we allowed money (here represented by the size of the browser market share) to translate directly into political power (here represented by the ability to enforce arbitrary standards).
I’m not sure LibreOffice is a drop-in replacement for Google Docs if you need sharing, collaboration and built-in version control.
Mozilla seems to be pretty transparent. You can see their financial statement at State of Mozilla.
I only visit it from a search engine when searching for something. It’s still a vast repository of useful content.
I knew about Bitwarden, but I thought how could a cloud based thing be truly open source, but they actually do have their backend on GitHub 🤯

git is the best, but sometimes I wonder if its total domination in the SCM market is really a good thing.
Most used for me is Firefox (in fact I’m so used to it, it didn’t even come to mind until I saw so many replies mentioning it!).
The favorite is probably git.
For the recently discovered stuff that would probably be the Astro frontend framework (and Svelte).
