These names are really fun! Good ones to add to my list…
Cool to see the Immich team going full time. I don’t use it personally but I hear great things
I have questions. Is this something in use today? Who is manufacturing them? Is this something you’re personally familiar with or just aware of?
You mean like git sparse-checkout
? Admittedly experimental but useful
Also, I like the “alternative to” blogs in https://blog.while-true-do.io/spotlight-alternatives-for-google-dns/?ref=selfh.st - it’s an interesting series.
Spotted homepage on there - might switch my dashboard from Homarr to that, give it a try. Anyone used it (or other dashboarding software) before?
Favorite terminal? iTerm2 on mac, hands-down. Wish they would port it to Linux.
On Linux though, I usually end up using guake, as I like having easy drop-down global access to my terminal.
Also never seen BaseRow before - anyone used that over NocoDb? Comparisons?
Just discovered OliveTin - I was thinking about writing something like this ages ago, but was always too concerned about security. Anyone ever use it or anything else similar?
Happy to see ActivityPods, never heard of it before but was thinking that would be cool!
I don’t think they’re necessarily meant to be self-hosted, although they can be. The point is to decentralize and take control over your data. Will happily explain more when I sober up :)
Some excellent content this week. Some of my highlights:
Some really good content in there this week!
watch
- always thought I had to write a watcher (e.g. with a node library). That’s massively useful honestlyThis made me go down a rabbit hole of server names and I now have a super long list of names from mostly Greek mythology that I’m going to use next time I have a chance
FYI user mentions in Lemmy are done with an not
/u/
, e.g. @cypherpunks@lemmy.ml
Not exactly what you’re asking for, but GhostText might be useful. It lets you use your preferred text editor to write in any browser text field.
Sucks about VMWare, that’s a blow for sure
I don’t remember exactly, it was around 2 years ago. It was easy to set up, but I found the feature set to be lacking some essentials, and I ran into a couple of big bugs. Couldn’t really replace my airtable setup yet. Happy to give it another try though!
Anyone used NocoDb recently? Last time I tried to get it running, it was too buggy to be useful
The WinAmp maybe sorta open-sourcing is interesting. I’ve never used it (aside from downloading it to get MilkDrop working in Foobar2000).
