He is talking about software. A fucking video conferencing tool not controlled by American tech is no ASML level investment.
We could at least start with this

These are valid concerns, I still value my privacy way more then 4k resolution in some shows and not being able to use unsecure wifi.
My TV isn’t connected to the Internet for the past 4 years no problems here and you can easily set a password on your hotspot if you need one.
Well, I see your pain, but this being the reason to give in is stupid in my opinion. Privacy is worth fighting for but people will only start to realize that, when they don’t have any and it’s too late.

They are all more or less the same chinese products with different cases, but it’s pretty cheap
It doesn’t work as well as the Wii controller since it uses the accelerometer, but you get used to it. The keyboard on the backside too, works for urls and some searching but you most likely don’t want to type longer texts with it.

In this day and age, why even use that smart tv shit?
I switched to an old PC connected to HDMI and a mouse that works like a wii controller. Firefox with AdBlock, audible, Spotify no problem at all here.
I think only tech illiterate people should even consider using smart tv, everyone else: get back you autonomy ffs, there are alternatives to that crab

Funniest thing.: the Mac client also doesn’t support Kernel anti cheat, but it still works. Fuck riot, I’m glad I ditched it.

Same for me but I switched to dota; im not healthier

That’s the way you to go
Self hosting on a rolling release platform? No way. Give me Debian, 4 hours work every 2 1/2 years. Arch is crazy and only doable if you only have a few single server

+1 for netbox

That’s the spirit. Reddit and all other social media died for me during the exodus 1 1/2 years ago. Since then i go to lemmy and I’m fine. Tbh I’m not really sure if more user will not also pull commercial interests into the fediverse and if that is something I’m looking forward to, but for now, everything seems like reddit around 2010, not too big but big enough to not being out of content after scrolling for 10 mins.
We have that in Germany. Everyone pays a monthly fee that is not controlled by the government to create unbiased news and media

It sure is. Just don’t expose the management interface to the internet. And stop using the webserver for configuration, real man use ssh. Have fun

the more you know what you are doing the less impressed you are by ai. calling people that trust ai idiots is not a good start to a conversation though

There is a big difference. If a platform belongs to a single entity, you can pressure that entity especially if its profit driven. If there are thousands interconnected platforms that only share an open protocol the most you can do is shutdown a single instance. That’s why an open protocol creating decentralized instances is so much different than a centralized platform. It’s like trying to ban email or censor speak: not that has never been tried, but that is a whole different cup of tea.
Why don’t you explain in detail what you mean with “No.”?!
Until then you are just a troll wasting all our time.
Exceptionally well written and interesting blog post. Kudos to FrostKiwi!
Well said. Everyone is crying about Mozilla dipping their toes in AI, while at the same time, ignoring Windows telemetry, Google’s push for manifest v3 with chrome and so much more.
It’s so stupid
