I’m thinking about switching to GrapheneOS, but sadly I need to continue using WhatsApp too. Do you have WhatsApp installed in a separate profile? Notifications aren’t cross-profile aren’t they? How do you get notified about a WhatsApp message when it runs in a separate profile?

You could run a PeerTube instance to mirror other people’s videos. The more mirrors, the more decentralized it gets. But it takes some manual curation of videos or instances you want to mirror.

Keep in mind, too, that you can add as much or as little data as you want. If you want to map the species name of every tree, feel free; if you want to trace over a building and just call it a “building” with no other details, that’s helpful too. So don’t get intimidated; it’s about what you can do, not what you can’t.

Thanks for this! I wanted to add a public ping pong table a couple weeks ago but got overwhelmed by all the data fields in Vespucci. I didn’t want to submit an incomplete dataset, but couldn’t figure out which additional fields are needed. Next time I’ll just submit it.

On Meshtastic for Android it works like this:

Go to Settings - External Notification (under Module Configuration) - Turn off the 6 toggles under Notifications on message receipt and Notifications on alert/bell receipt.

Now the device only plays a sound when booting.
