Luckily it only took like 15 mins total.
Thanks though!

Came to Lemmy while my disk manager is processing my new partition.
If it goes well, I’m switching today.
So, probably some time early tomorrow morning. Because I’m not great with reading instructions.
Edit: it’s still processing. It feels like it shouldn’t take this long to partition…
They’re not going away, they’re just going to be more persistent with their cold calling, and more infuriating with their call answering.
When the voice assistant came out I remember one of my coworkers showing it off to another.
To which the other coworker just said “hey Google, text Mom saying ‘you’re fat’”.
Because of that I’ve never had any voice tools connected to anything I own.
Excellent work by someone there. I love the customer service agent with the ski mask (who can barely keep a straight face) lol
Infrastructure can be a real problem in some places.
I’m currently on a mountain and since they upgraded to a hybrid satellite/cable system the speeds have skyrocketed. Laying cable/towers is just not viable, especially with dense rock peaks blocking line of sight.
Also I have coworkers in Nigeria who lose internet multiple times a day (and often don’t have the bandwidth for a video call) but most of them have bitten the bullet and paid the high up-front cost to get starlink at home. And now can do HD video calls with zero interruption (unless they have power issues, but that’s a whole other thing).
So I think there’s a lot of use-cases for sattelite, especially for people who aren’t considered worth the investment in non-sattelite infrastructure.
It’s just unfortunate that yeah, space junk is going to one day (suddenly) be a massive problem.
Edit: ah I may have replied to the wrong comment
A whole new generation of the Kobo readers just came out too!
I’ve got one of the previous Gen and I was so happy to find they have models with the clicky buttons to turn the page.
Didn’t know that was a thing outside of steam deck.
But yeah I’m waiting until the last moment because it’s likely that’s when the best contender will appear.
Closer to the EoL time, someone is going to release a version of Linux that is basically windows, with a super locked down interface etc to make it so newbies can install and use with zero CLI or setup.
Or at least some serious consumer-grade onboarding.
Presumably it will have reduced functionality to make it as stable as humanly possible too.
And they’ll probably become one of the larger distributions until people get the confidence to “upgrade” to a more complex one.
You don’t know any 5yo software engineers?
Great, so when they abandon the nuclear project in 18mths who will maintain them?
It took me a moment to notice those weren’t specifically security terms…
The “fuck spez” map drawing from Reddit
Yeah I agree
The absolute lack of any kind of consistency with layout or alignment makes me cringe too.
It’s just shows how they’re just glued onto the page with no care or planning. Especially no consideration to the user or user experience.
I literally downloaded this two days ago. Wtf
Ghostery has an “auto-reject cookies” setting.
It’s not on mine yet.
So some a/b testing maybe
Thank you for letting me know. I will too.
I’m hoping they make a desktop version but I’ve been testing Linux mint on all the games I can download and I’m pretty sure it’s running better than my win10 boot.
So the fact that the other distros are an option that’s relatively accessible makes me think there’s less value to valve releasing the desktop version any time soon.
