It’s true, the only evangelizing I want to see on my feed is converting to Linux.
Shitposter while I tend to two babies. Maybe when I have my life back, I’ll help us get a few more niche communities back?

It’s indeed the time. I found Cachy was a good pivot, similar feel but seems to work better overall. Manjaro is still based on Arch after all, technically.
$5.19 at the cheapest near me in Los Angeles, 3/8. Just a week ago it was around $4.29, but of course I procrastinated filling up my hybrid since I still had a quarter of a tank left… Sigh.

I teach, so trying to adjust old ppts for lecture got a little weird because it turned the bulletpoints into mailboxes, and equation formulas are done completely differently so libre just makes them uneditable (a picture?).
When things got wonky in lecture though I managed just fine. My students are much worse, they open shit in non-MS apps all the time (.notes for takehome exams, or like, keynote, whatever) and fuck up formatting all the time, often without even realizing it. (I do provide PDF alternatives at least). Explaining I use libre really easy in that case, lol.

Ironically, Huffman doesn’t seem to be in the Epstein files. This isn’t because he isn’t a pedophile-- he very likely is-- but he simply wasn’t important enough of a person for them to invite him or even talk about him.

Oh I love those themes, I also sometimes use the 98 one on Plasma and it makes people do a double take.

Meanwhile a surprising number of outlets are advertising %100, including corporate ghouls like iHeartRadio. Hopefully that trend continues as people get sick of slop pushed in marketing.

True. Maybe a guide that mentions the big names would suffice? I have a friend scared away with the choice paralysis.

The Linux part is a bit of an afterthought in that announcement but it’d be pretty cool if they’d just go all in. They admit they’re the main browser of most Linux distros after all, why not give a specific setup a shout-out? Most of the confusion in switching is in distro and interface, after all.

I still never liked that. It’s the best of a bad situation, but aiming with a mouse is so superior, many games won’t cross-platform with a PC out of fairness, lol.
That’s what I figured and I appreciate the confirmation. Since I work in education it’s probably a “better safe than sorry” approach since the laws on student privacy are actually enforced, unlike in corporate. (Obviously it’s security theater, though, as web apps and Windows integration make emails and files easy to steal anyway).

Some of y’all are showing your bubble side; outside of our communities here, Linux very much is obscure. That said, there really does seem to be a leak in the mainstream and it’s nice to see it mentioned in a publication. Even if just a little gain, thanks in large part to Steam raising awareness for gamers, US decline in Europe and Canada, and Windows 11 blunders with security.
I’ve gone from people being completely oblivious when I mention Linux, to going “oh, like steam deck?” but there’s still plenty of others who still are oblivious. Then again, mentioning file extensions goes over the heads of 95% of who I talk to, so I wouldn’t have too high hopes.

Probably for the best, lol. At the very least, Roblox isn’t particularly good for kids.
Also, modded Minecraft through Prism beats bedrock any day of the week. I’m hoping when my kids are of age, they’ll be down for an expert pack. My daughter sure as hell will be, she’s as weird as I am. I’m sure more normal kids have packs they’d enjoy, though.
Yeah, I think if it’s web apps it’s fine, just aren’t ideal. I was mostly frustrated I couldn’t use a third party email app or OneDrive integration app. It’s more a grievance with the university I work for, though.
I’ll be trying to contribute to that!
Already hit a difficulty since my workplace uses Microsoft for everything and the admins lock out third party stuff. I guess I can access files on outlook and OneDrive via browser based options but God they’re awful.
I agree. Can’t quite put my finger on it… maybe the window behind the monitor? I try not to assume simply because of the style, but the lack of author credit makes it hard to check anyway. The weird thing is it wouldn’t at all be hard to draw by hand.
Edit: I like all the different answers. It feels like a new, unfortunate version of the “find the differences” game.

I ended up with CachyOS over Bazzite but I’m looking into the latter for my dad since I’m guessing it’s more stable and easier.
I just… Idk, I like Arch over Fedora. I blame the little pacman eating my progress whenever I install stuff in konsole. Desktop mode to desktop mode it’s the same KDE Plasma I’d be using, though. Are there any other striking differences between Cachy and Bazzite?
Edit: it was good to bring it up here, y’all are very knowledgeable on these things. It sounds to me that I need to get bazzite for my dad mostly because he won’t want to fuss or work on it and that I made the right call for myself since Cachy (and Arch in general) gives more flexibility. Frankly I might not even give him desktop mode default, he strictly wants something to play from bed in full on retirement mode.

People willing to play expert modpacks are also people who are willing to tinker with Arch Linux.
Seriously though, there’s so many parallels between modded Minecraft and Linux: they’re foss, they have a billion packages with a billion dependencies, weird bugs pop up and you work around them, and of course, the skill set to automate things in a game like that (or factorio, satisfactory, etc) lend themselves to using console commands and scripts and such.
That said, it’s also just easier to play Minecraft on Linux with a launcher, haha.
Believe it or not, it gained 10fps running on Arch… doing… whatever that thing was doing.
Sure as hell ain’t my students; it’s been a steady decline since ChatGPT came out and I think I may have failed more students than ever over unfinished projects. You can’t GPT the semester long project, there’s a paper trail and data to collect can it becomes super clear who is AI brained now…
Edit: PS, grade inflation has been a thing for a few decades now, btw; the As aren’t the problem so much as the mush brain.
