Thank you for this. Super helpful.
For some reason the location is now locked and won’t update for me.
“This is a 100% open source effort, so you could even roll your own, if you want.”
Do we like it though? It seems like a good thing (anything has to be better than the currently broken system right?), but after reading some of the comments I’m not sure.
Thanks for the dogtraining one. That’s probably what I needed
I mean yeah, maybe it won’t affect me directly, I like the instance I’m on and it’s a pretty respectable one. However, indirectly, this is very relevant to any Fediverse user, regardless of the instance or platform they’re using. Allowing abuses like this to happen without any pushback is a surefire way of turning this place into a shithole just like the rest of the internet. I appreciate the fact that, at least for now, it’s different here.
Also, maybe this isn’t my only homebase? Just saying.
I was under the impression that DM’s on Mastodon (and Lemmy too) weren’t ever stated as being secure and I think that they were both pretty transparent about this particular aspect.
Yeah, we’re trying to get the fuck away from algorithms. That’s what makes the fediverse such a big draw currently, for me.
Look at that shit-eating grin, he knows. There’s no way someone can be that out of touch, right? Right?!?
That’s all you can do 🤷♂️
Fair. I just find it interesting and want to share it. I should just let them decide on their own if it’s something they find interesting or not. I’ll try to remember to just give them an app recommend instead.
Less complex is definitely better in this scenario. Getting people to switch and use another piece of software will already be a challenge.
I’ll check that one out though, and thank you!
I will keep that one in mind, thank you for the reference.
This seems like a possible contender. I’m currently giving it a test now just to see what it’s like. I’m fairly new to all this, what do you mean by their geo-stack not being open?
Edit: I’m not sure this one will be able to work after all. I think it probably needs to be mobile focused, and this one seems to want to be used on desktop. I tried uploading a .pdf for a georeferenced map and it just got stuck in the loading process (this could be just because my internet is shit right now). I may give it another try, but for now I might have to keep looking.
To each their own I suppose :)
Organic maps looks beautiful, osmand is kinda bland
I didn’t mention it in the description, but I think in my head I was definitely imagining a TKL form factor. Thinking about it though, I probably wouldn’t mind the extra width too much. I think I could manage just fine with it, and the numberpad would be better than the one that’s on my laptop currently (it’s got a single-width zero key instead of double width that I’m used to…)
Yeah, I definitely found their website to be a bit overwhelming. Lol.
Thanks for finding that one for me, it’s going on the list for when I’m ready to pull the trigger.
I hadn’t really considered this, but I think I would want the entire thing to be low profile if I went that route. Not that it wouldn’t work great or anything, but it seems like it might be odd to have low prof. caps on a full thickness board? Maybe I’m just overthinking it.
As it currently stands, I’m considering giving up the volume knob because there doesn’t seem to be any models that fit all of my requirements. Currently leaning towards the Nuphy brand
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve definitely been keeping an eye on Keychron, everyone seems to have excellent impressions of them.
