I missed 90s channel-surfing, so I built NOSTALTV, a free browser-based cable-style guide: https://nostaltv2.netlify.app/

It has a guide grid and CRT filters, with Saturday morning cartoons, Cartoon Network, Toonami-era anime and other nostalgic channels. There’s also a LOCAL channel for your own video files (which stay on your device) and viewing rooms with chat—no account needed.

It includes streams from the Internet Archive, Wikimedia Commons and YouTube. It can install as an app on mobile or desktop, and runs on a stock PS4 browser or a modded PS3.

What 90s TV channels or shows would you add? I’m genuinely building this from feedback.

This isn’t exactly the kind of content I’d normally allow posted here, but it’s very cool and just on topic enough. I’ll allow it this once.

Fun fact: the original ran on Amiga (Commodore) hardware. We all learned this when it crashed one day and had the flashing red box that said “Guru Meditation Error” and some other stuff. When an Amiga failed, it pushed the screen down about 20% of the way and that banner took up the top 20%, basically the only way out was to power cycle the machine and hope it didn’t hit that error again. Unless the application had debugging, you probably weren’t going to easily found out what broke. One of my first computers was an Amiga 1000 (1985, but I had it in the 90s, it was a hand-me-down from my father).
