I think this speaker was fair in following up the video, which he made very clear was just a demo for getting ideas, with the notion that real artists are still needed.

The gen AI stuff we have now is only going to get better. Think about early CGI stuff like Toy Story and then think about Avatar. People are going to use these tools to create things, it won’t replace creativity, yet.

Everybody chill and enjoy the ride you old farts.

That’s a deep cut. And lots of profanity. Makes you sound more legit.

Didn’t say I was hoping for anything. That’s some projection. Just saying it’s a moving train that you’re not stopping.

What would you rather happen right now? Destroy all AI code ever written. Make laws to ban the use of gen AI?

Fuck you, profanity can make you sound completely legitimate. Can you not spell? Your opinion obviously has no weight since you can’t finish the word legitimate. See how your argument works?

AI as it is now is theft. You should be pissed at the state it is in now. People work hard just to have their shit stolen. Get. Fucking. mad.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFsZRQL6QdI

“Instead of attempting to divert the train or make regulations to make the train safer, enjoy the ride as it squashes the bodies on the track.”

Or how about a third option? Make it illegal to train your bullshit AI on other people’s work without consent. That would be great.

          Quit being apathetic.

if you want respectful engagement don’t start off being a little twat

as to what I personally want?

I don’t even disagree in principle, ai is here and it’s not going away

what should happen is strong worker unions and regulation preventing the race to the bottom

we’re not getting any of it but you can keep your mouth shut

You are very aggressive. Fetal alcohol syndrome? I’m sorry your parents weren’t more responsible. I wish the best for the management of your condition.

I think were getting a little to quick to the trigger in shitting on AI. I dont see any problem in what I saw watching the Ted talk. I didn’t watch every minute of it but what I saw for what the article is calling AI slop seemed like viable use of AI to create fictional creatures.

I’m more sick of hearing “slop slop slop slop slop” than I am of hearing about AI at this point. People sling slop around like it’s some sort of brave, heroic, destructive insult, leaving AI users in tears and shambles in its wake. Ironic considering a complaint against AI is that it regurgitates the same characteristic bit of content over and over again mindlessly. But even ChatGPT would have the writing skill to cycle in some other adjectives, my goodness.

Completely agreed. AI haters pride themselves on being creative, but they can’t form an original thought on the topic.

As a biologist and fan of SciFi/speculative evolution, having it be AI is one issue, but the bigger problem to me is the lack of creativity. They’re literally just obvious mixups of two earth animals? Cmon, let’s have more imagination here!

I just tested with Gemini “Make an image of an alien creature that is a mix of a crustacean and squid, but with fur, climbing up a purple tree. there are lianas and vines falling down around it with orange flowers”
