IIRC, the windows version of this is a setting where you can hit CTRL and it makes a moderately large circle that contracts towards the pointer. It’s been in since at least W7/Vista, possibly XP. I’ve used it on and off for years (especially with 3 27" monitors) because of how easy it is to lose the cursor.

That just screams they’re not storing passwords properly. If you’re salt+hashing your passwords, they could throw Hamlet into the password field and the only limit is how big the text entry field can be. The output is a fixed length string, so I put length should be immaterial.

Jumping a turnstile and taking a physical, actually scarce resource is not comparable to duplicating a digital, artificially scarce resource.

The train requires ongoing maintenance and can only hold a finite amount of people. Taking the train seat for free takes away something from another person. Downloading media does not use any ongoing resources, and does not take anything away from another consumer.

Comparing the morality of physical goods to digital goods are not really a good comparison specifically because of the artificial scarcity brought on by making something digital to try to make it more expensive doesn’t map to the real scarcity of physical goods.

So just swap new drives in one at a time, after backing your data up just in case. I upgraded mine to 4x10 drives 3-4 years ago, and its painless as long as you wait for the resilvering process to complete.

It kinda does though, if you look at it from a speed/competency aspect. I’m more and more convinced that the people who build out features only have tangential ideas on how it integrates into the overall system, so just throwing a browser at every problem gets you a cookie cutter backend with APIs and let’s you shove half baked features out the door without having to figure out how to wrap data in protocols since you just hand your payload so the browser and wait for a response.

This is bunk. If people pirated the record labels out of business we would have less music sure, but there will always be people who make music for the love of the craft, rather than just to line an executive’s pocket.

I’m all for directly supporting artists (and I buy albums and merch directly from the band wherever possible), but let’s not pretend like the people pulling the strings aren’t also responsible for the shitty situation they’re in.

Is it still a “good faith attempt to share information” when they’ve ignored reports that their information is incorrect for literally a decade? If this was medical advice, would you still be saying that the provider of decade old misinformation not be at fault?

Why is it ok for a provider to knowingly give bad instructions, instructions that they have very good reason to know is incorrect, that leads to someone’s death? At what point does it become clear neglegencenon the provider of said instructions?

I’m not saying Google is 100% at fault for the death, as the local municipalities owe a lions share of the blame for not properly marking the danger in a way that could have saved this person’s life. But washing googles hands of blame when they couldn’t be bothered to update their routes after a fucking decade is unconcionable.

Killing people is always affordable

Because capitalism means that you always have to keep making more money year over year even if you’re not doing anything more than you ever were. So sometimes the only way to do it is to squeeze your customers even harder.
