There’s a lot of things humans would have been better off without, technologically.

24/7 News Cycle. 24/7 Social Media. Social Media in general. Smartphones.

For one thing, get it working before building thousands of data centers and turning the not even half-baked algorithms loose on the world. AI doesn’t have to equal trillions in investment and so much resource consumption.

It might turn out we were better off without electricity, but we’ll never know because we have electricity.

It should be an “opt in” thing, but as someone with at least half a brain; I find myself spending waaay too much time “opting out” or “entirely avoiding that pile of shit like a cow turd in a field full of landmines”.

AI ain’t got shit on me. I’m Kong Kong and I’ll eat your children, bitch.

im with ya my guy! like fundamentaly i understand the arguments around “ai is built on stolen ideas!” and “I wanted ai to fold washing and mop floors so i can spend more time being creative, but this is the opposite!”

BUT, the thing that gets my fee fee’s hurt the most is, I would probably use more of it if it wasnt being forced down my throat at every oppertunity. OK! I GET IT! AI is good but if it is soo outstandingly revolutionary then LET ME DISCOVER THAT! dont ram it down my throat saying “You will enjoy this!”

Since the hyperscaler datacentres contribute massively to extra fossil fuel burning, then we are all definitely worse off, regardless of whether it helps some people write sloppy code really fast.
